Green Valley
Green Valley is one of the smallest appellations in Sonoma County. Tucked away in the southwestern region of the Russian River Valley, this appellation is known as the most consistent of any North Coast appellation in terms of soil, climate and flavor. Green Valley is the first place where the fog comes in and the last place it burns off, making it the coolest, foggiest part of the Russian River Valley. Such cool conditions make this region ideal for Burgundian varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as Alsatian favorites like Gewürztraminer. The Pinot Noirs are velvet-textured and supple with spicy black cherry; the local Chardonnays are crisp and creamy with hints of nutty spices; the Gewürztraminers are spicy with nutmeg and cinnamon that finish with alluring floral aromas.
