The 2012 Reserve Merlot was carefully selected barrel by barrel from our best Merlot vineyards. The blend is predominantly from one of our estate Merlot vineyards located in the Sonoma and Dry Creek Valleys. The production of this truly reserve wine was limited to less than six percent of Kenwood Vineyards’ Merlot production.
The first vintage of the drought, 2012 began with an early growing season and a very dry spring. After bloom in May, the vines slowly ripened the fruit over the course of the summer. The grapes were picked at the absolute peak of flavor in late September and October. After being harvested, they were crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 14 to 18 days. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels for 25 months. After aging, the wines were tasted, selected and blended before being bottled in May of 2015.
This deliciously smooth Merlot pairs well with rich pasta dishes, lamb, pork and beef entrees.
