Hello Wine Club friends!

May is here and as the summer is approaching, we are looking forward to the next stages of this crop’s progression. The vines have completed most of the canopy growth and leaf establishment while the crucial step of bloom is nearly in motion. During this stage tiny flowers are created and exist for only a very brief period. This delicate process determines the crop size and influences quality. It amazes me when I think that each berry on a cluster of grapes comes from an individual flower that was pollinated. In one acre of grapes between 4 and 5 million flowers bloom, are pollinated and develop into berries. To put it in perspective, that glass of wine you are sipping originated from roughly 100 flowers!
