Kenwood™ wins ‘Wine of the Year’ as critics praise The Barn’s first vintage
Kenwood ‘The Barn’ Pinot Noir 2016 has been named ‘Wine of the Year’ and ‘Best Pinot Noir’ at the 2019 Global Critics Challenge, marking a significant achievement for the wine’s first ever vintage.
Head Judge Robert Whitely awarded Kenwood ‘The Barn’ Pinot Noir 2016 a platinum medal and 97 points, describing it as “a stunner… showing impeccable balance and supple tannins”.
Launched in May this year, ‘The Barn’ is Kenwood Vineyards’ new icon wine range and is named in honor of the historic barn on the Kenwood property that represents Kenwood’s long heritage and deep roots in Sonoma. The Barn wines illustrate the very best of Sonoma winemaking. These small production wines are meticulously crafted and reflect our winemakers’ passion to capture the essence of our wildest terroirs of Sonoma.
Zeke Neeley, Kenwood Vineyards Winemaker, said: “It’s a proud moment for the whole team. For the first vintage of Kenwood ‘The Barn’ Pinot Noir to be selected as ‘Wine of the Year’ demonstrates the heights that Kenwood can achieve and proves the exceptional quality of Sonoma Pinot Noir.
“We want ‘The Barn’ to be a wine that epitomizes the best of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, so we source only the best grapes from the most exceptional vineyard blocks. We then handcraft the product with the gentlest handling possible to capture the subtle uniqueness of the vintage and vineyard. In order to maintain the quality, we will only craft this wine in years where the vintage delivers the desired quality.
“With ripe cherry plum, raspberry, and strawberry fruit there is a delicious graham cracker pie crust note and interesting savory spices like cardamom and allspice. I feel this wine is delicious now but still in its youth with a bright future.”
Kenwood ‘The Barn’ Pinot Noir 2016 is available exclusively from the Kenwood Vineyards Tasting Room or at https://kenwoodvineyards.com/shop/the-barn for US$80 RRP.
