Jack London Vineyard Sonoma Mountain Merlot 2012
The Jack London Vineyard creates distinctive red wines that have a loyal following. The red volcanic soil and pleasantly warm climate of this hillside location combine to produce rich, full-bodied wines. The result of its exceptional terroir is grapes of great distinction that make wines with superb flavor and deep, rich color.
The vintage of 2012 started with a dry and mild spring which gave way to a summer with nearly perfect growing conditions. The fruit was harvested over the course of several weeks in late September/early October as each vineyard block attained its maximum flavor and ripeness. After fermentation, the young wine was pressed and settled before being placed in barrels for aging. After 19 months in the barrels the blend was assembled and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was added to give additional complexity and balance.
