2022 featured several curve balls from Mother Nature with frost in the spring, continued drought conditions and a large heat spike in early September. Fortunately, the late spring and entire summer conditions were along the of average and ideal temperatures in the Alexander Valley. The grapes were hand harvested in the early hours of September 15th and cold soaked for several days before initiating fermentation and stayed on the skins for 21 days prior to being drained, pressed, and moved into barrel. The wine was aged 16 months in 67% new French and 33% neutral oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Classic terroir driven aromas of black currant, graphite, green peppercorn spice and fresh herb. Flavors of cassis and black cherry are complemented by polished tannins and subtle acid supported by a framework of integrated toasty oak for the lengthy finish.
