Single Vineyard Portola Chardonnay 2017
This vineyard lies at the southeast end of the Dry Creek Valley AVA near the town of Healdsburg. The vineyard alluvial soil is very well drained, providing ideal growing conditions for rich Chardonnays with a well rounded flavor profile. Heavy winter rains recharged the soil after years of drought. A moderate summer made for a steady growing season, with the Dry Creek AVA being slightly cooler than usual.
The grapes were hand harvested on September 13th, gently pressed at the winery and the juice was sent to French oak barrels for fermentation. The lees were stirred every other week for 3 months before we allowed the wine to settle. 100% of the barrels went through malolactic fermentation and the wine was aged for 9 months in French oak before racking and bottling. Our Portola Vineyard Chardonnay presents lively aromas of ripe stone fruit and orange blossom with hints of white chocolate and allspice. The wine is full-bodied with a rich mouthfeel and creaminess that was achieved by stirring the less during sur lie aging.
