Six Ridges Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Alexander Valley lies in the northeast of Sonoma County where mountains shelter the vines from the Pacific Ocean’s cooling influence. This warm climate is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon wines of intense flavor and silky tannins, and the excellent drainage of the rich, gravelly soils provides unique depth and character to the wines.

Winemakers Notes

Although 2016 had near average rainfall it wasn’t enough to lift California from its fifth year of drought which led to a balanced crop. A late season heat spike resulted in a harvest slightly earlier than usual. We harvested our Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes between September 20th and October 6th. Each vineyard lot was fermented separately on the skins for 15 to 25 days, then settled and racked twice before the wine was aged for 20 months in small oak barrels. An expressive and beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of ripe blackberry and raspberry underscored by notes of caramel and cinnamon. The palate is rich but not astringent—full of ripe fruit and hints of baking spices. The finish is characterized by toastiness from the oak barrels reminiscent of a lightly roasted coffee.
